In the late 1960's, Hamilton and the surrounding area was experiencing a shortage of healthcare providers. In response to this need, a group of people formed the Mid-York Family Health Centers Association, Inc. and those same individuals became the first Board of Directors.
With a generous grant of land from Community Memorial Hospital and monies provided by the Hinman Foundation, a building was erected and the first providers hired. In 1989, the Board of Directors sold the Mid-York Family Health Centers Association, Inc. to the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital of Cooperstown, NY and Bassett formed the Bassett Medical Network, opening primary care centers in Hamilton and Sherburne. The assets from the sale of the equipment and buildings was used to form The Mid-York Foundation. Since 1990, the Mid-York Foundation has awarded grant funds to qualifying organizations in Hamilton and surrounding communities.
